Raphael's Bakery has been operating in Bemidji, since 1989. The original bakery was started in Minneapolis, in 1955, and Ray Sweeney Sr., moved the bakery to Blackduck in 1973 prior to the Bemidji opening.

Ray Sweeney Jr., the current owner with his wife Brenda purchased the shop from his father in 1990. Ray Jr. has been working in the bakery business since he was ten years old and is carrying on the Sweeney recipes and baking formulas.

The Raphael's staff takes great pride in the "made from scratch" recipes which have been used the past 40 years. They also take pride in their specialties ... Uniquely Decorated Cakes for all occasions and the excellent and tasty Wild Rice Bread, which they are especially proud of, and which is available all year round.

Brenda can usually be found around the shop most times during the day but Ray is usually hiding out in back by his bowls, spoons, spices and ovens. Stop in and say Hello anyway and give some of their baked goods a try.
